Detroit's Big Train won the Pitching Triple
Crown (Wins, ERA, and Strikeouts)
The Detroit Tigers dominated the regular season, winning 101 games and tying the all-time league record for wins that was set by the 1904 New York (baseball) Giants.  The only real drama in the pennant race was the battle for second place, as Boston and St. Louis went down to the wire for the remaining spot in the World Series.  Boston ended up with that 2nd place spot and went on to defeat the heavily favored Detroit team in the World Series.
