The Detroit Tigers had a franchise-best 93 wins in a season that included both the regular season pennant and the World Series championship.  They bested the New York Giants in a seven game classic, with Chief Bender's strong right arm leading the way.  This was the Tigers second championship in three years.  The future is very bright in Motown, with youngsters Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, and Eddie Collins poised to keep the Tigers in contention for a long time.

Some of the top performers of the season include..

-Ty Cobb came close to the Triple Crown, leading the league in batting average (.325), home runs (10), and coming up just 6 RBIs behind teammate Sam Crawford (99 to Wahoo Sam's 105).  Cobb did win a Triple Crown of sorts though, as he easily led the league in stolen bases with 95.
-Orval Overall led all hurlers with 22 wins and 234 strikeouts
-Big Ed Walsh had the league's lowest ERA (1.66), second best of all time!
-Eddie Collins (DET) set an all-time best hitting streak with 26 straight games with at least one base hit
-Eddie Cicotte (NYG) broke Red Patterson's previously unapproachable record for saves in a season with 47

Eddie Cicotte, not on the take this year as he racked up 47 saves!
