1902 Season Recap

World Series Champions - Boston Red Sox (Doug Miller)
MVP - Addie Joss (NYG)   29-13, 2.78 ERA
Cy Young Award - Addie Joss (NYG)  29-13, 2.78 ERA
Manager of the Year - Matt Hunt (CHI)



Addie Joss of Detroit burst upon the scene with an incredible season, racking up 29 wins, a record
that still stands after the 1906 season.  The Chicago Cubs easily won the regular season with a 94-60 record.  However, it was Doug Miller's Boston Red Sox that took home the trophy, winning the World Series over the always-cursed Cubbies.

Some of the top performers of the season include..

-Big Ed Delahanty (BOA) .won the Batting Average Title with a .380 average
-Charlie Hickman (CHI) had a powerful season, with 12 home runs and 120 RBIs
-Sammy Strang (CHI) edged teammate Dave Fultz to top the league in steals, 73 to 72
-Eddie Plank (DET) tosses the first no-hitter in the league's history
 


"Strawberry Bill" Bernhard would have won the
Cy Young Award almost any other year, compiling
an outstanding 21-9 record with a league-leading 1.79 ERA
